Easter

We had a pretty interesting Easter this year, resulting in Blaine having some awesome deep thoughts. He wrote a blog entry for his family's blog....but I thought I would post a link to it on here because it was awesome. It is also long. So if you have a moment and want to check it out please do and let me know what you think....

P.S. My husband is awesome.

P.P.S. Don't make fun of me because we ate leftovers for Easter.

P.P.P.S. Please don't ask Gwen if the Easter Bunny came to our house. He didn't. Long story.

Hey Kristi,
I read the post. Very thoughtful and well written. And no, we don't always have all the answers. I think they key lies in finding a balance between the two things, which can be hard to do. We decorated eggs on Saturday, and during the decorating we talked about how the eggs represent new life, just as Christ had a new life when he was resurrected. When my kids prayed before and during the holiday, they thanked Heavenly Father that Jesus had been resurrected, not for all the candy they got. So I hope that I am doing okay with it. I can definitely appreciate both sides of the story. Tell Blaine I really enjoyed reading his thoughts on the matter.

Kristi,

I feel the need to de-lurk. I'm Bart's sister-in-law and have 5 little ones of my own and love reading someone else's parallel experiences. Thanks for your great writing and honesty! It's delightful. We have really gone through a lot of thought about the whole Easter thing. My husband lived in England (w/Bart and family) for awhile and liked the religious traditions that the Church of England has, so after several yrs of thinking and mulling and toying with ideas here is what we do. Feel perfectly free to ignore, or not even read. We have a Spring Day, either the first day of Spring or even after Easter (I am insanely frugal-or cheap- and love filling Spring Baskets at 1/2 off). This is the day we celebrate spring with hidden treats, eggs etc. The week before Easter we take about 2 min each night, read what the Savior was doing that day before his death/resurrection and show them the pictures from the gospel art kit. I am amazed at how much they are picking stuff up and the questions they are starting to come up with. They are actually excited Sunday morning that we are going to celebrate the Resurrection, because there's not a lot to read when the Savior is in the tomb on Sat. I loved reading about your husband's experience with your daughter. Stuff like that make me feel like maybe I'm getting something right. Kids are amazing. On Easter we sing the Easter hymns, read the Resurrection story and discuss why it's important- like now our family will be eternal. Also, we eat fish and honeycomb or at least honey on toast for lunch- random, yes. Maybe we are fanatics, I don't know, but it seems to really be working. So there is a really long post for you. Thanks again for your great blog. I like reading about another regular, down to earth mom, it makes me happy. (Also, my husband thinks that a cilantro seed snuck into your parsley to try and look good.)
