First Date

Today I found myself reflecting back to my first date.

It was bad.

Really really bad.

*Richard and I had been good friends forever. All through Junior High he promised to take me on my first date when I turned 16. Well my sixteenth birthday came and he asked me out. By this point in time we weren't really that good of friends, and there had never been romantic interest at all. I was, however, quite interested in this nerdy kid in a couple of my classes, **Blaine. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Blaine would also be on the date, and he would be taking a super cool girl that he had gone to Jr. High with. It was going to be fun.

We had had a dating etiquette lesson in seminary a couple of weeks earlier, so I felt very prepared for the date. In the lesson we learned that when eating on a date you should order something less expensive than the person who is paying for the date orders. Fair enough.

So my first date was dinner and a movie. We ate dinner in the mall food court. I was starving. Everyone else was ordering their meals and getting settled at the table.

Well, my date ordered a soft serve ice cream cone. It cost $0.49. That left me with either getting an ice cream cone for dinner or filling up on saltines and ketchup packets. So I ate an ice cream and we waited for forty minutes while everyone else finished their dinners (and then ate their ice creams).

Then the boys went off to purchase tickets and I watched as my date asked all of the other guys if they had any money he could borrow.

Awwwwwkwarrrrrrd

I was kind of humiliated during the whole movie that he had to borrow money. I mean, if you don't have money that's fine, don't go on the date. Or if you do go on the date and need to borrow money, don't do it where your date can see you. It makes her feel really really weird.

So the whole date I pretty much spent my time wishing I were there with Blaine.

Anyway, it wasn't the worst date I have been on at all (that one involves my date eating spaghetti with no utensils ........and with no hands); but it really got my dating off to a shaky start.

What was your first date like? Good, bad, ugly?

I freakin' love you Kristi. I could not stop giggling... You are my comic hero. I am so thankful you share your moments of embarassment and awkwardness with me - so I can laugh... at your expense.... :) Again, I just love you K!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I was in attendance at your worst date ever (Morp our sophomore year?). You'll have to tell the story of that one another time. I went with Seth (6'7" Seth) and just remember him giving me a hug with a pat on the back at the end of our date. I knew I had no chance with him after that hug. :)

Oh, and were you in the group that rented the ice skating rink for Morp our senior year? You were probably the brilliant mind that came up with the idea! That was the funnest day activity (excluding when my chin had an intimate encounter with the hockey puck). Thanks for letting me reminisce on your blog!

Too funny! The only dates I've had have been with Dario, and of course you know how that worked out. But I will say, although I enjoyed our first date because I was just so smitten with him, he wasn't the best host. He took me to the dollar theater and didn't even offer to buy popcorn. Also, when he asked which movie I wanted to see and I told him to choose, he chose the most guy-ish movie that was there, "Best of the Best 2". I hadn't even seen the first one. But it was okay. We held hands at the end and that was all I cared about!

That is hilarious! You've inspired me to write a post about my first date...also a horribly awkward experience! Stay tuned on my blog!

This wasn't my first date, but definitely the weirdest. It was Homecoming my Senior Year and I was on Student Council. I hadn't been asked and was totally fine with that, because I had to decorate all day anyway. Well that morning the principal (a woman) calls my house and asks me to go with the foreign exchange student living with her. He really wanted the experience...and luckily had a guy friend who wanted to go too. So I found one of my friends and at least we were doubling. Well being foreign exchange students they weren't allowed to drive. The principal offered to let me drive her car...a Porsche. Yah right...I'd be so nervous I knew I'd wreck it. So she hired a taxi to drive us around. Boy was it funny. Cedric was from Belgium, had shoulder-length blonde hair and was so short he barely reached my shoulder. We went to an Italian restaurant for dinner and he tried to order us wine (being from Europe they already loved wine). The dance part was actually fun because he was really funny and I could hardly understand him. Anyhow...I will never forget that date.

That is so funny! At least you got to be on the date with Blaine! My first date was pretty pathetic. Just a movie, no dinner. My parents for some crazy reason allowed me to go see "Silence of the Lambs" with a guy who was not a member (he was a nice guy though). They must have been nuts to let me go see that movie. I think they were just glad that somebody asked me out. =) I regretted it though. It was a horrible movie to see with a first date. It must've been a bad experience for him too because I never heard from or saw him again. Sad, cause I actually liked him.

Funny memories. I just wished you could have used real names. I'm trying to remember who Blaine was with and who else was on the date. I am having vague recollections of Blaine or Scott or Jed or someone having to lend someone else money! I'm curious!!

Hilarious story!
I think my first official date (since I don't count silly arranged meetings with friends in junior high) was with the guy that ended up being my best friends' boyfriend in my worst date story (the one I posted on my blog awhile ago). I kind of lump it all together in my mind and then a shiver goes down my spine...
