What's the consensus?

I need a little help with the whole Easter Bunny thing. I don't really get it. So far today I have been asked the following questions by Gwen

1- What is the Easter Bunny's name? I answered Peter Cottontail, is that right? I remember a song about Peter Cottontail hoppin' down the bunny trail or something...

2- Where does the Easter Bunny live? Uh....Bunny Land..... I guess.

3- Where is Bunny Land? well, next to the North Pole of course!

G: But bunnies don't like snow
Me: Well it is warm in Bunny Land
G: but it is cold in the North Pole
Me: well, just because they are by eachother doesn't mean they are the same temperature....

4- How did the Easter Bunny get to Wal-Mart? On his bicycle.

G: Bunnies ride bicycles??
Me: Yes.

Help. Seriously, it doesn't help either that they have those pre-filled Easter baskets at the store. She had loads of questions about those. So now our version of the Easter Bunny is a bicycle riding bunny who lives in the North Pole and buys candy at Wal-mart to bring to our house and then takes the eggs that we colored and hides them. Oh yes and he also has the moms pick out the Easter dresses and he pays us back later. What a weird bunny.

I was not well equipped to handle Easter this year. How I am supposed to play the Easter Bunny when Gwen is always with me?

What were your Easter traditions? I am considering bagging the whole Easter Bunny thing before I mess it up so bad that he blows Santa's cover. What do you think?

We never really did the Easter Bunny thing (see also: never believing in Santa Claus), but we did always have an easter egg hunt (my favorite being the year we had eggs filled with money, rather than candy) and a big easter basket with usually one biggesh item (I remember swimsuits one year) and then some smaller toys and candy. I love Easter.

We always had the "Spring Bunny," who also happened to come on Friday night instead of Saturday so as not to mix too much with the focus of Easter Day.

In regards to Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc... the best answer to any stumper is "It must be magic!" I mean how else would a bunny live in warm Bunny Land next to the cold North Pole and also be a skilled cyclist? Magic!

At our house the Easter Bunny's only role is to come along sometime on Saturday and hide all our eggs for us, and maybe (if I happen to have my act together like I do this year) leave a little something bigger possibly in basketish format. So I guess Claire's okay with all the craziness because we only bill him as the "hider."

You can't bag it...just wouldn't be right ;) But what you can do is tell Miss Gwenie to stop asking so many questions...who does she think she is? A 3 year old? I'm only kidding, but I think you are handling things just fine. By this time next year she would have forgotten all the things you told her and then you will be able to make up new stuff. And if you start thinking now you just might have a pretty darn good answer come next April! Don't fret...you can totally pull this off!

I know what you should do in the future: don't have such smart kids! :) But I guess with you and Blaine as parents, it's pretty much a given that they'll be smart.

I have to disagree with Holly about the forgetting next year. If she's anything like Jacob (and I think she is) she remembers details and something that important will not be forgotten...even at 3 years old. I'm with Julie and it being "magic."

I'm a little clueless also when it comes to Easter. I've just been using "The Easter bunny will bring you treats if you are a good girl" thing. So far it seems to be working for me.

Holy cow, I can't believe she's even asking about the baskets at the store! That never occurred to me or any of my kids. My answer when I don't know what to say is, "I don't know". My kids ask what he looks like and I say "I don't know. He always comes when I'm sleeping and I've never seen him." Sometimes I also add the magic thing. "I don't know. Must be magic!"

When Mitch was younger he was terrified that a "bunny" had come to his house and had come INTO the house. It totally freaked him out, so we decided to tell him about how mom and dad play the "easter bunny" at our house. I told him that a lot of kids still don't know that and he is fine with that. All of our kids now know that there is no bunny, but on Saturday we do give them a basket and other stuff. I don't know, do what works for you. I did have Peyton ask me if Santa was real, and before I could answer Mitch said, "ya Peyt, he's real" - so I never did have to say anything. ?? That works for us. Do what works for you. She is a smart little girl, I don't know how long it will take her to catch YOU doing something and then you will have to explain. We hope you had a great easter! Miss you

I had the same problem this year. I think Parker and Gwen are a lot alike. I don't think I like the idea of a giant bunny hopping around my house either. Bunny's poop A LOT! I think next year we'll just hide the eggs, leave a basket of treats, and not mention the big bunny. Easter is fun and one of my favorite holidays, but that shouldn't be the focus.
