Let the nausea begin!

Don't worry, I'm not pregnant. I just booked our flights to Salt Lake for our trip and so now I will be in a constant state of distress until I am safely back on the ground in Austin in about a month and a half. Aren't you proud of me? You maybe don't realize what a big deal it is for me to do this, and I guess it isn't done, but I scheduled (well, I told my dad to schedule) our flights. Utah here I come (I hope). And pray for my sanity in the upcoming weeks. It really is hard for most people to understand, but when I think about flying I become totally non-functional.

I think I may go seek medical attention (uh....drugs) to see if they can give me something to help, but it would be sad because I am pretty sure I would have to wean Bentley. Oh the trauma, I wish this wasn't such a big deal to me.

Please don't tell me how safe flying is, I know that. This fear is hard wired baby. You can tell me how safe I will be though and how much fun I am going to have and how there will not be storms on the day we are supposed to fly out.

Oh dang, the hyperventilation is starting.

I am SO proud of you!!! :)

And there will be no storms, and you'll be on the ground in just a few hours instead of taking a day or two to drive.

I know it's not the same, but on my flight to Japan I experienced a few moments of freak out when what I was actually doing would sink in. I think I caught a glimpse of the phobia and have a little more empathy now. Best of luck to you.

I'll vouch for how big of a deal this is. I am kind of shocked myself, I really didn't know if she would ever be able to force herself to do it (she's missed things almost as big as a Disneyland trip in order to keep firmly planted on the ground before...). Anyway, good for you Kris! You're an inspiration to us all (and I really am not saying that sarcastically, Kristi has faced her biggest fear times ten with this! :)

You know how some parents, when they feed their kids, pretend the spoon is an airplane?

I bet if you did that more you'd subconsciously become more confident in flying. That is, unless you have a hard time maintaining control of the spoon on the way to Bentley's mouth.

Come to think of it, you might want to refrain from this type of therapy, which has not been approved by a doctor.

I'll think of something better. In the meantime, way to go Kristi!!!

Kristi, maybe when you crash you'll land on the island from Lost. That'll be fun, won't it?

Okay, was that too cruel? I couldn't help myself. But seriously, it's great that you are doing it even though you're scared. I think facing it is better, even if you're never totally comfortable, than just letting the fear overcome you and paralyze you so you can't function. Good for you, Kristi.

Well since you don't want me to tell you how safe flying is (which I wouldn't b/c I am not so convinced myself, but am okay with the being nieve on the subject) I will go right in on meds. What do you want, the blue pill, the magic pink pill, how bout the purple? Okay instead of sounding like a drug dealer on here I will just say I too get "anxiuos" (to be medically correct) about things.

For the record Xanax (zan-ex) is exactly for anxiety. You take it when you know you are going to freak out...which in your instance would be flying, so you would take it a little bit before the flight. Smooths those nerves over real nice :) I don't think you can take them breastfeeding or pregnant, so that would be something to think about but just so you know there is help out there. Although, I will say, there is nothing like conquering a fear on your own. Its like a million times cooler once you've actually accomplished it.

Good luck Kristi! And hey, how long will you be gone? We will miss you in YW....it better not be one of those 6 week trips that everyone in our ward takes (besides me) :)

Now that I've seen a few episodes of lost, I feel your pain :)
I have to say though, it is definitely an addicting show! Think of a happy place when you're on the plane...maybe Bently and Gwen will be distracting enough

Whoo-hoo!! I'm so proud of you. I know you can do it. I'll be thinking of you. It's going to be so worth it because it will give you more time to have lots of fun with family and friends and less time melting in the humid heat of TX! And I'm absolutely POSITIVE there will be NO storms that day. POSITIVE!!
