A tale of two strollers....

Okay, calling all motherly experts (and Bart), I need an opinion. Well first off lets just say I am trying to distract myself from thinking about flying and how on earth I am going to raise three children, by focusing on trivial issues, like which stroller would serve us best in Disneyland. We have two options folks. First, the Joovy Caboose.....

There is a place to sit for Bentley and a place to stand or sit (albeit uncomfortably) for Gwen. This is ideal because Gwen could walk when she wants and hop in if she needs a rest or if we need to book it somewhere. Also the sunshade for Bentley is far more useful then in our second option. It is no wider than a regular stroller so therefore navigating through crowds, etc. should be easier. The downsides are....what if Gwen gets tired? She wouldn't be able to take a nap. Also Bentley's seat doesn't recline quite as far as in the other stroller.

Okay, option number two, our double jogger..

It's comfortable, both kids can recline, easier to push. Probably would not fit through any sort of doorway anywhere. A lot of times I think Gwen will want to be walking so I would be lugging around extra bulk.

So, have you been to Disneyland with two kids? What do you think would serve this family better? I know you probably don't have an opinion and really don't care, but please, just humor me or else I will resort to hugging my knees and rocking in a corner twisting strands of hair between my thumb and pointer finger while I fret about flying (and raising three children).

When we went to Disneyworld in October/November last year we decided that it was worth it to rent a stroller from them - you can do a double one, and then you don't have to haul it across the country. But that being said, you may need a stroller for the rest of the time - I would definately take option #1. There are enough of you that Gwenie will be fine not sitting in the stroller. The jogger just seems so large. Just my two cents! Do what ever you want -

So here's my opinion. I agree that you could rent one but I'm wondering what you will do when baby number 3 comes along. Will you need a double stroller then? I agree also that joggers are very bulky. I have a double stroller that is front and back and you can take off the little tray thing so Gwenie could get in and out as she pleases. So anyway, just a suggestion. Good Luck with such a major decision. =)

Just to clarify, we already have both of these strollers, just wondering what you think would be best to take to Disneyland. Thanks for the opinions guys!

I'd rent a double stroller in Disneyland. My parents took a regular double stroller (front and back, rather than side by side like yours) when we went to Disneyland with my two brothers who were 3 and 2.

Here's my beef with renting a stroller... If I am to rent a double stroller it is $30 a day, that adds $90 to our trip, not to mention I would be stroller-less for the rest of our Utah trip.

Hauling a stroller across the country is easier than one might think also. You take it to the airport, can push the kids around in it, then you leave it at the gate and somehow when you land it is magically all set up for you when you deplane. Plus it doesn't count as your baggage.

So .... there's my beef about that. I would rather buy a new stroller in anaheim and sell it on craigslist when done with it, in anaheim, then rent one. Just my opinion though.

Oh not to mention our stroller would then get lost in a see of identical strollers. Yikes. And the possibility that they could, indeed, sell out of strollers, then I would have to hire a body builder to lug the children around.

Are you saying I'm the only non-motherly expert who reads your blog? I feel all kinds of special, now. :)

Option #1 is the clear choice for Disneyland, as long as you already know Gwen will do well in that stroller.

Otherwise, option #2 is the safer choice.

I would definitely NOT rent a stroller. In addition to all the things you said, I prefer navigating the airport with a stroller, all things being equal. Sure security with a stroller sucks, but then you have a terminal approved carrier for all your carry ons (which can be a lot with kids in tow). Also, it's a great place to imprison a child prone to wandering off, a great place to nap, and a feasible substitute high chair for feeding solids. I could never keep track of all the things we have with us if I didn't have a stroller to hang it all on.

But yah, back to Disneyland. I've never done the Happiest Place on Earth with kids and we don't even own a double stroller. When we did stuff where I thought both kids needed a stroller, we did 2 separate strollers. Nice one for baby, umbrella for bigger kid. I also don't know what DL is like, but at other parks, any indoor place is too small for ANY size stroller anyway. I would argue that size is a non-issue since these things will have to be parked outside anyway.

My last thought? I've had 2 different strollers damaged during airline baggage handling, so maybe you should take the cheaper one (or the one you don't like as much) so it won't hurt as bad if they break it. That's why I've only ever flown with umbrella-esque strollers.

Good luck!

Yes, Bart is correct. Clear choice is stroller #1 Isn't that the one we took to Sea World when I was there? It seemed to work perfect for both Ben and Gwen. If Gwen gets really tired she can sit by grandma and rest or some of us can go back to the hotel midday for naps and then head back in the late afternoon and spend the evening. You're right, I wouldn't rent. I think you'll want a stroller in the airport and while you are here. And I don't think we have room in the car for the big double jogger, as cool as it is.

Can't wait!

Hi :) I'm so happy I blog-stalk you! I can finally help with a question! Wooo hooooooooo! :) I've been to Disneyland over 100 times and it's primarily when Katelynne was age(s) 3-6 and Trevor was age(s) 0-3 :)

I would DEF. take the double jogger, if you do not want to rent one there. {The ones that are available to rent are really crappy for babies by the way, they are hard plastic and just one big bucket for the 2 children - not practical at all for a child under the age of 3}.

I've never heard of any friend having their stroller stolen or harmed and the double jogger will be PERFECT for what you will need. In fact, the reason we bought ours was for Disneyland :) If you use the sit n' stand (which we tried at first.. but it was horrible) - you may have what happened with us.. 1, Gwen cannot see and will freak out because she is missing the Happiest Place on Earth and/or 2, she will be so exhausted but cannot go to sleep because she has the "jump seat" in the back so then someone will be carrying her while they are cursing the sit n' stand :)

The double jogger will also be great because you can take food and drinks into Disneyland for freeeeeeeeeee so you can freeze water bottled and juice boxes and leave them in the basket and all of your other goodies that you will need.

It's not too wide for doorways etc because they have a double jogger that you can rent there and it's easy to navigate through the restaurants, stores, shops etc with it. I would also take the baby carrier with you for the long lines when the stroller is parked and you are waiting for a ride with Gwen. {You can also ride share so that Gwen gets to ride twice and you don't have to wait in line twice but each get a turn with her}.

I have a "disney mania" email I send to friends that want it that has tips from our trips to Disney, if you want it just holler!

Hope this helps and...Good luck!!

I got to go to Disney Land a couple of years ago with my two kids. There is one thing that I remember and it is something that no one has mentioned. i remember having to take down the stroller a lot, to get on and off things. I remember it being really obnoxious!! So maybe think about the one that is easiest to handle, for the airport and disneyland.

For Disneyland, I'd definitely want the double jogger. I used a friend's double jogger at Seaworld and it was SO SO great. Gwen will definitely be tired of walking, and definitely be hot and cranky, and she'll want to sit and be comfortable. And YOU'LL want her to sit and be comfortable and BE QUIET already with the whining that she's tired and hot.

I love my double jogger and wouldn't take anything else. And the matter of space is about the same i feel like the double joggers take up the same amount of room in a trunk. And fiting through doors is all about the angles. My jogger is as wide as a wheelchair so doors have to be that wide, how wide is yours?

I have been to disneyland many times within the last few years, however I just had Morgan with us. But that being said, everytime she would be exhausted and would need a nap. Last time we went she was 4 1/2 and she still took a short nap. If you can, I would take the double stroller. Now that being said, you are going during the busiest time of the year, so it will be crowded. Most inside places, strollers have to be left out. And I haven't had any problems with that. Although I would bring your valuables in with you. Anyways, good luck.

Um, at first, I was totally all for choice number 1. But, as I read, I would have to go with the double jogger! It just seems so much more convenient. Plus, I agree with the not being able to see, and also, cursing the sit and stand while one of you carries Gwen around! That's my thought. I've never done Disneyland with kids, but I think that would be my choice, especially if it's as wide as a wheelchair!!!

We did Disneyland with 2 small kids and have done many airports with 3 small kids and our double Graco stroller (similar to sit and stand, but two seats). I love it for both places because it isn't too wide and fits everyone and everything I need. For you, I would take the double jog if people tell you it isn't too wide for Disney (e.g. Jeannie) because that would be my only concern. You definitely want to places for kids to sleep/sit and be out of the sun when you spend a long day at Disney. Gwen probably won't want to stand or sit uncomfortably the whole time.

P.S. Congrats/Good Luck etc. on the pregnancy. I've been out of town and am finally catching up on blogs.

So I'm catching up on blogs too since I've been gone and so now I see it is too late for my valuable opinion, I just wonder what it was you decided?!?!?!?
