Like an orange on a toothpick

Today I took the kids in for their annual check up and what do you know....Bentley's head size is off the charts. Like WAY off the charts. Like "oh my gosh I need to measure your head right now because your childs head is freakishly big" kind of off the charts. It happened when Gwen turned one too. We had to measure all of our siblings heads and parents heads, etc. to make sure that we are all big headed.
At girls camp they called me fat head. Really. And this isn't like when I was a camper at girls camp, it was when I was a counselor. My head is just big. I like to think it is to accomodate by big brain, but you know, whatever. So the weird thing is that the doctor measured my head and it really isn't that big (and I would now like an apology for all of those who called me fat head). I am in the 75th percentile. Gwen is currently in the 99th percentile. And from my basic understanding of how percentiles work it is impossible, but Bentley is in like the 150th percentile. His head is that big.
Anyway so everyone say a little prayer that when Blaine measures his head that it is really big. I mean, it seems pretty big, but we are hoping that it is honkin' huge so that Bentley's big head will be explained genetically and so we don't have to go and get an MRI. Yikes. I am fairly confident it is all good, but the huge head combined with the fact that the kid isn't even close to walking or crawling more than an army crawl has the doctor concerned.

In other well-child check up news... they did a hearing test with Gwen and you have to wonder about that. She asked Gwen to tell her when she could hear a beep. Gwen sat there silently and then the nurse would ask "do you hear a beep" and Gwen's response was "almost". Wonder how accurate those tests are...

Anyway, so this is Kristi-Big-Head-Bassett signing off. I'm going to go "cry myself to sleep on my 'uge pilla" (Please tell me you've seen "So I Married an Axe-Murderer").

I have mentioned to you before that Spencer had an MRI when he turned one because his head was off the charts huge, right? And I had to sit outside because I was pregnant with Sophie. (It was all brains in there, by the way). And I assume I've also told you that when I went to go get my graduation cap at BYU and handed the woman my head size she handed it back and told me I must be mistaken and to measure again, 'cause no one's head is that big. Sigh. We big brained people have such the hard luck, I'm telling you what.

And, yes. I have seen "So I Married An Axe Murderer."

The Lindsey's have "huge heeds" too. That is what you call them by the way (in a Scotish accent). Don't stress about it, I never thought that his head looked that large. On the other hand, you should see Ryan's brother's kids - they have HUGE HEEDS!~ And yes, we love "So I Married An Axe Murderer" awesome show. :)

As far as the hearing testing goes.....we have had a couple of those with grace. I asked about how acurate they are with a little kid and the doctor seemed pretty confidant.

As far as big heads go, my brother has a huge head. you should see his little girl! She was a late crawler too but when she got it she took off.

My friend had a HUGE head when she was little, and now her body has caught up to her head, and she is geniusly brilliant. (Since geniusly is not really a word.) Anyway, I'm sure he's just really smart, and that's all you need to worry about.

Blaine always seemed to have a big head. (Just kidding, Blaine!) I'll keep my fingers crossed that he really does.

Ah, thank you for the Axe Murderer reference. One of my favorite movies EVER.

I can relate but on the opposite end. My kids have small heads. I've come up with many things I did wrong when I was pregnant with them that caused it. Because it's all my fault, OBVIOUSLY... (Did you know that use of pesticides while pregnant is linked with small head sizes in babies???) It couldn't possibly just be genetic.

Here's rootin' for Blaine's big head...

Hi Kris,

I never thought you had a big head. Where did that come from?

So do we all need to measure our heads again? Remember dad (Bret) has a big head so I'm thinking that is where it is from.

And Andrea is right, Ryan's family does have large heads. Ryan's dad was Dad's coun. in the bishopric long ago. Uncle B was the other coun. Uncle B happens to have a very small head. If you needed to be entertained in sac mtg you just looked up at the bishopric - big head, big head, pin head!

Of course he's not crawling or walking yet - it's too much work to hold that heavy head up all the time! It'll all work out! The worst part about a big head is the delivery, and that's all behind you now!

Smom (mother of another big headed child, who didn't walk or crawl soon enough for anyone, and who didn't budge when the doctor rang a bell next to his ear. The doctor asked me, "does he have any siblings?" Clearly someone with older sisters isn't startled by noise.)
