Boneless

Dang Ralphie and her dang chicken. I never really needed or wanted to go to Costco before but then Ralphie introduced me to the worlds best boneless skinless chicken breasts, and now all of the sudden I find myself pleading with friends to take me to Costco with them. Of course there is the gallon size package of parmesan cheese and five quart bucket of minced garlic, and diapers, but mostly I like to go for the chicken. However, I do not want to pay a $50 membership fee, yikes. I think my friends are sick of my mooching though. So, how do you feel about Costco? Sams Club? What are your favorite buys there or do you shun the warehouse store thing. Just curious!

Costco will allow more than one person to use a membership. I purchased one and got a card for my son. While technically I'm still paying the full price, at least he gets his for free. You could find someone to share a membership with. That would at least soften the blow a bit.

My mom got us a Costco membership for my birthday when she was here. We got a free pizza with our membership too. We loved getting meat and the Ghiradelli brownie mixes - and Dino Nuggets :) The diapers are nice, but more expensive even in bulk than they are at Sam's. Anyway, it was too far to drive so we got our money back and went to Sam's. It's not as nice, but the difference is slight and the diapers are cheaper. Most of all - it's just so much closer. I always make a list and we stick to it. Otherwise, it breaks the bank. Picture developing is pretty cheap there too.

Costco, oh how I love thee! But then you know that... Seriously, I don't think there's anything I can say here that you don't already know.

I tried going to Sam's once since it was closer, but I just couldn't do it. Besides, Sam's doesn't carry chocolate truffles and manchego cheese. Mmmmmmmmm.... I just like the stuff Costco carries better.

Costco. . . I love it! We drive 40 minutes to get there even though there's three different Sam's Clubs we could go to within 10 minutes. Their food, cheap hotdog meals, dino nuggets, frozen fruit, fresh fruit, clothes, books--I could go on forever. We just plain out feel right at home because our moms live at Costco too. Home away from home!

Kristi,
If you can share a membership with a non-family member I'd totally go in on it with you. I love Costco but also don't want to spend $50 for a membership.

I totally feel your pain and could never decide so I keep a membership at both spots. I go to Sams if I'm in a hurry, because it does save a lot of money to buy essentials in bulk and then I go to Costco if I have more time available to drive a little further and to spend more time browsing. If Coscto was closer than Sams, I probably would not go to Sams as often, if at all.

Costco costs a teenie bit more but has more name-brand items ie: "McCormick" spices instead of the "Tones" brand that is at Sams Club but... you still save a ton at Costco on basics.

Good luck!!!!

Ask Gretchen how often we run into eachother at Costco!! And then think about how far away we both live from it. And that might tell you how much we both LOVE it.

Costco meat is the best, their Kirkland brand stuff is really high quality. Granted it's not as cheap as Sam's for some stuff, but you're also not skimping on quality.

And people - not one of you have mentioned it - who can forget the food court. Giant slices of pizza for $2 and a hot dog (polish or straight up) and soda for $1.50! I can feed my entire family for $7. I LOVE COSTCO!!!

I totally love Costco! Free samples, lots and lots of great food, and clothing, couches, and tvs...everything is just better at Costco! I've only been in Sam's club once, but I didn't like the prices, so I'm for Costco all the way :)

Costco, by far, is the best! Cheese is sooo much less expensive at Costco - buy the 5 lb. block instead of the 2 lbs. Other things on our Costco list: t.p., dishwashing soap, laundry soap & dryer sheets, chicken (of course), frozen veggies (organic corn, peas, etc.), milk, frozen berries, eggs, and the list just goes on and on. The other great thing about Costco is the no questions asked return policy. They don't care how long ago you bought something, if you bring it back, you get your money back. Totally worth the money - and I didn't know you could share a membership?! Even better!

I love Costco. I love getting gas just a little cheaper and I think their produce is probably the best around. Very good prices on it too. My hubby loves the croissants and I love...well, every thing else. I actually buy most of my food there and supplement with the produce things I can't get there. They also have great pizza and I always get a rotisserie chicken when I'm there. Yes, I love Costco. Oh and one other thing, they have lots of organic stuff another big plus for them in my book. I am definitely a Costco snob. I'd pick it over Sam's Club any day.

By the way, I think the membership sharing is only if you live in the same house. We looked into once so I'm pretty sure on that. Sorry to dissapoint

HAHAHAHA so one of the things I was going to say was my favorite thing is our Costco membership. You can save lots of money on contacts (cheaper than 1800-contacts) and all sorts of medicines, shampoo, baby clothes (cute carters jammies are like 6.79 and little outfits are the same), halloween costumes are about what? $12! Ethan was Spiderman (but you have to buy in August, when they come out for a guarantee on good sizes). If you miss the good release price for DVD's then you get them for 18.99 at Costco, Dog food, we buy a middle quality brand, Pedigree, and it is like $17.99 a bag, and we probably buy two a year. And it is noticebly better than the Ol' Roy we were buying before. Oh man I could go on! Plus, they have a fabulous return policy. What is even better than that, is the vendors Costco buys from do not want you to return stuff, so they usually give amazing service, to avoid that. We have had to call on several things, but for example, our Christmas tree-- one of the sections' lights did not work and we called and had a new secton like 3 days later. Free.
We have an executive membership, and it is about $100 a year. Sounds like a lot, but it is worth it-- you get a 2% reward and if your reward does not pay for your membership, they are more than happy to let you downgrade back to the regular membership. So basically, our membership is free. I don't usually buy cereal there, because Smith's and other stores have great sales, but they really have so much to offer. It is definitely worth a try :)
Sorry for another book, I hope it is helpful to you!

I was just going to say something about the executive membership, I don't have it but every time I go in they tell me that with the amount that we (me, my mom and my sister-in-law) have spent this year, we would get a check at the end of the year that would have already paid for the membership. So. I wonder if they'll back date it? I get most of my non-wedding prints done at Costco, they do a great job on their reprints and it's so inexpensive. Sometimes I swing by Costco for lunch, with their rockin' pizza slices. What else? I like to buy "People" magazine there because it, like most other things, is cheaper. And I love that gas is usually cheaper there. Thank you, Costco folks, for placing most of your locations right off the I-15 freeway here in SLC. You make my life easy. Sorry Lone Star State friends.
